Natural history
Cedrela odorata, Spanish cedar, is native to tropical America and belongs to Meliaceae, the mahogany family. Despite its common name, it is not a conifer. Its leaves are compound and paripinnate: each leaf carries several pairs of leaflets along one axis.
The species requires light and grows best in well-drained soils. Adults can develop a tall bole; their woody capsules release winged seeds. This record shows a juvenile individual with foliage and no documented reproductive structures.
In this tree, a pronounced fork opens the crown above the visible lower stem. The bark has longitudinal grooves and patches of different tones. The record preserves this particular architecture without attributing it to pruning, injury or pests that the photographs do not establish.
