Natural history
Dipteryx oleifera, known in Costa Rica as almendro de montaña, belongs to Fabaceae. Costa Rican publications also use Dipteryx panamensis, which Kew treats as a synonym. Following both names connects older research with current botanical records.
In Caribbean Costa Rica, its relationship with the great green macaw links food, nesting sites and forest continuity. Large trees and young trees do not necessarily provide the same resources. A landscape with different age classes retains different ecological possibilities.
